PRIYA BLUNTS
Priya Blunts is a South Asian writer and stand up comedian hailing from Queens. She thinks of her stand up comedy and writing as ‘emotional alchemy’. She uses her own struggles, traumas, and insecurities and turns them into comedic relief for an audience, whose laughter then is healing for her in return.
Priya is passionate about expanding people’s views on who and what South Asians can be in society and within the media. She is working to create South Asian stories that can push boundaries for how they are perceived by others, as well as themselves.
During the pandemic she started an open mic on her roof in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, which then blossomed into the weekly, Queens Squared Mic, now hosted at the Tiny Cupboard in Brooklyn. The Mic aims to create fun and safe space for POC and LGBTQIA+ comics, both established and newcomers. Priya was inspired to create a space where minorities are the majority!
Priya performs in clubs and independent shows all over New York, including Broadway Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, The Stand and The Grisly Pear. She is also very active on the Roast Battle scene, and just recently won a battle at the Comedy Store judged by Jeff Ross! She placed secOnd in the US Comedy Contest this past year.
